Time doesn't pass, it flies

Helllo!!!

I'm alive.... barely.... These past few months have been..... well.... educating.

Just a few points that have been on my mind....

1. Finland is an expensive country
Ohhhh YES! ..... FOOD is expensive even though they lowered the GST. Not to mention clothes, shoes, rents, everything....

NOW, finally begin to understand talk about better lifestyle in Australia.

2. It's so coooooold in Finland (my feeling)
It's not cold!! Weather is just fine... just the sleet and cold rain that I could do without. Proper below zero, or proper above. Don't care about the in betweens. Soon we'll head to the in (between weather wise).... help me to cope!!!!!

3. It's so hot in Aus
It is....way hotter than it gets in Finland most times, but the wonder is, that it doesn't feel as hot as it does here? Why??? In Finland +28 is BURNING hot.... in Aus... typical day... summer coming.... and it didn't even feel hot there!

When we came back for the first two months  I sweated like a pig... just in case.. I might in be in Australia.  My body had adapted the climate in Australia. Now I'm fine.... no sweating, BUT I still drink a huge (more than normal/needed) amount of water. I'm getting to the point that I do not need to and drink water.....meaning my body is not screaming for it.

4. Darkness versus sunlight
Everyone living in Finland knows what I am talking about. Right now we a living in darkness and I am not lying. There is obviously a price to pay for the light Summer nights!!

Once they %^&*()_ moved the clock to 'winter' time I've been sooooo LOST. I have begun to understand the QLD people arguing against it. It's amazing how much damage one hour can make. Used to be in favor of  daylight savings but now... I'm not so sure.  Luckily we got D-vitamin and lamps... as if mother of three would have time to be in front of one LOL They should make an iMac with one and I'm sold!!!

5. Technical stuff organizing everything... getting things done
Have to admit.... Finland has fallen behind. Sad but true Have no idea what's happened, but we are struggling with ideas that are not originated from here, workforce in Finland is unfortunately not cheap and it is cheaper somewhere else.

What happened? Where is the cutting edge???? Is it still there? Is it still here?

6. Social security aso.
Welllllll, things have changed. At some point Finland was the paradise, but nowadays it's only paradise for NON-Finnish speaking refugees who bring their whole family here. Finns suffer more than they do.

Makes you wonder what kind of Finland are we trying to build??? Do we still want FINNS here??? Btw same or even better in Aus. I prefer family taxation.

7. People.....
When I first arrived to Australia it was reeeeally weird to listen to that, How are you, I'm fine stuff. Well being back here. It's OK, don't wanna get too friendly but I could use a smile.

These people here are like they've swallowed a crowbar.... I prefer the Aussie way..... Real or not.....

8. By this time I'm out of ideas or too tired (reckon it's the latter one....)

Please share your ideas with me. Make a conversation. Goooood night.... Hyvaa yota!

Wohouuuuuu!!!! Still alive, all of us after this week!!! Wohouuuuuuuuuuu!

Good points! I can say from experience that the return culture shock is often worse than the initial one - and this is not helped by all the people who have zero understanding to your sudden problems with the "homeland".

    1) Indeed it is. And I fail to see _why_ everything is so expensive in Finland. The often-used argument that it's far away from everything doesn't hold water - Australia is at least as far away from everything. Perhaps it's just the lack of competition.

    3) It's the humidity. At least over here in Melbourne, when it's +35C it's usually very dry and doesn't feel too hot. The air in Finland is mostly quite humid, so even +30C feels very hot.

    5) Nope. Hasn't been there for some years, but it's nice to live in the illusion that it still is somehow technologically superior place to everywhere else.

    6) This bugs me to no end also. The social security system in Finland encourages people NOT to learn to the local language and not get a job. It's sickening. I prefer the US route of
"sink or swim" - with little nanny-state support, the migrants _have_ to integrate to the society, learn the language and get a job. There are no options. In Finland it's much, much too easy to just lie back and watch the money come in from KELA.

    7) Agreed. I also prefer fake happiness to honest rudeness any day.

Hassu.)
